Awaken & Live is a part of some thoughts and conversations I have had with people over the last 18 months. A season unlike any most people can remember we have found ourselves looking inward, toward long forgotten dreams. We have found ourselves floating along in life like a sped up rush of people, but we are slowly awakening like bubbles of boiling water. Rising to the surface, no longer contained or asleep. This mixed media piece illustrates this process perfectly through a series of layers. The bottom smooth, textureless flow of the alcohol inks and the peekaboo bubbles in the centre, only seen at certain angles. The bubbles slowly but powerfully coming to the surface, waiting to burst free. What are they saying? The time to rise is now.
This is part of a study to try to bring a more three dimensional experience to the flat smooth appearance of alcohol ink and resin.

Currently displayed in Rustic Rhubarb in Aldenham Country Park until the end of August.
